About the Sumner Foundation

Sumner Regional Health Systems, Inc. (SRHS) has been serving the healthcare needs of the greater Sumner County area for more than 45 years. In 1994, SRHS became a private, not-for-profit organization and it now serves 11 counties in the upper middle Tennessee region. The Sumner Foundation was established as the 501 (c)(3) fundraising arm of SRHS in March 1995. The mission of the foundation is to provide a framework for the community to gift and give; giving by all within their means and gifting to fill the needs of patients, families, hospital associates and the community at large that are not met under usual circumstances.

The Foundation raises money solely for the needs of SRHS, including its four hospitals and several affiliates. The Foundation is governed by a board of directors who provide stewardship for the funds and oversight for all expenditures.

Today, some 3,000 donors support SRHS programs and services by contributing generously to the Sumner Foundation. Funds are raised through annual giving, planned giving, associate giving campaigns, and special events such as the Starlight Gala and Stellar Tribute, Rockin' the Barn and the Charity Golf Classic. These three signature events have raised more than $1,738,000 for Sumner Hospice over the past five years. Contributions to the Foundation also support projects such as the Dodson Family Health Center which opened in 2002, transportation for cancer patients through Sumner Care-A-Van, and overnight housing to patients’ families at the Hospitality House.

Our newest project is to build a much needed Hospice House where terminally ill loved ones may spend their final days surrounded by family members and skilled, caring health care professionals.
